Susan Garcia Nofi
J.D., Quinnipiac University School of Law, 1994. BA, Communications, Southern Connecticut State University, 1991 Garcia Nofi started at CWJC in 2016. Prior to her work here, she served, from 2012 to 2016, as executive director of the New Haven Legal Assistance Association, Inc. She was Deputy Director (2009 – 2012) and a staff attorney (1996 – 2002) at NHLAA, and, from 2002 through 2009, she worked for the Connecticut Department of Labor's Employment Security Appeals Division. There she served first as Appeals Referee and later as Principal Attorney to the Board of Review, which decided unemployment compensation appeals. Bilingual in English and Spanish, she was admitted to the bar in Connecticut in 1994 and, to the Federal District Court for the District of Connecticut, in 1997. She has completed 40 hours of mediation training at Quinnipiac University School of Law’s Center on Dispute Resolution in Hamden, Connecticut; and a training in "Administrative Law: Unemployment Compensation" at the National Judicial College in Reno, Nevada, in 2003. Garcia Nofi is a James W. Cooper fellow at the Connecticut Bar Foundation (2012-present), and a member of the Connecticut Bar Association (2009 - present), Connecticut Hispanic Bar Association (1994-present), Connecticut Judicial Branch Access to Justice Commission (2012–2016), and the New Haven County Bar Executive Committee (2012–2016). In addition, she was a member of the Community Fund for Women and Girls Advisory Board from 2013 through 2016, and served as its chair starting in 2015.
